Montana Actions

The Montana Rifle Company

The Montana Rifleman has been dedicated to providing quality products and services for the custom gunsmiths and their clients for over 15 years.

Internationally recognized for custom rifle barrels and rebarreling services, they have expanded their product line with the creation of the Montana Rifle Company. Along with input from hundreds of custom gunsmiths and end users across the country, the Montana Rifle Company designed and built the Model 1999 Montana Action.

The Model 1999 Montana action takes features from many of the best designs and incorporates them into an action that is safe, functional, cosmetically appealing and affordable. The Model 1999 Montana actions have the following features:

  1. Anti-Bind feature which utilized a dovetailed left lug and raceway (on right handed actions) which provides precise retention of the bolt within the receiver bore.
  2. The bolt sleeve incorporates a Mauser style flange to gases issuing along the left bolt-lug raceway, and away from the shooters face.
  3. Retains the 3-position safety found on the Winchester Model 70. This is one of the most popular safeties today.
  4. Retains the claw extractor and controlled round feed capabilities.
  5. Push button bolt release system that is cast integral with the action offering easy to use one hand operation.
  6. Trigger and sear assemblies are manufactured using a EDM process that maintains design geometry to within .00003"
  7. The trigger assembly maintains the Model 70 geometry and if fully adjustable. It also gives the end user the option of installing an aftermarket trigger assembly meant for the Model 70.
  8. The action has been designed to incorporate the Mauser 98 style inner collar ring that includes an extractor cut. This feature not only increases the overall strength of the action but also allows for the elimination of extractor cuts and cone breeching within the barrel.
  9. The Model 70 receiver ring geometry has been maintained, allowing customers to use any scope base meant for the Model 70 without modification.
  10. The receiver incorporates gas ports on both sides of the front receiver ring for superior safety in case of catastrophic failure.
  11. All actions include one piece, all steel bottom metal in either 4140 or 416.
